Environmental Stewardship
Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to join our many activities in caring for God's earth!
Forest Lake Presbyterian Church has been active in its mission of Environmental Stewardship since 2005. We were the first Presbyterian Church (USA) in South Carolina to be designated an “Earth Care” congregation by the national PCUSA Earth Care Ministry and were selected as the recipient of the Presbyterians for Earth Care national 2015 Restoring Creation Award. Being good stewards of all of God's Creations is part of our worship of God...
We strive to improve our sustainability with eco-justice; recycling; composting; and conservation of resources, water, and energy.
We teach and involve all ages in organic gardening in our 3 gardens: Erosion Control Rain Garden; certified S.C.Wildlife Federation Habitat Garden; and certified National Wildlife Federation "Kids' Garden" which gives all of its produce (almost a ton to date) to Rehoboth Global Methodist Church Food Pantry.
We involve our congregation and community in Environmental Stewardship education with various learning opportunities provided for all ages throughout the year including events with environmental educators.
We are actively involved in community service and have been certified and recognized by several organizations: we received the 2021 Adopt-a-Waterway Group of the Year from Keep the Midlands Beautiful; in 2012 we received the Sustainable Midlands 2012 Congregational “Sustainable Champion” Award, The Keep the Midlands Beautiful 2013 Green Neighborhood/Community Group Award, DHEC’s state 2014 ‘Spare the Air’ Community Award, and the GreenFaith national Water Shield.
