Pentecost! The Holy Spirit Shows Up!

This Sunday is Pentecost in the church’s calendar.  On this Sunday we remember the story of how the Holy Spirit came and enabled the disciples, who were afraid and locked away after Jesus’ death and resurrection, to become witnesses to the good news of Jesus Christ!  We will have two opportunities to worship God on this Sunday.

LIVESTREAM AT 10:00am

We will celebrate communion during this remote service, so get your bread and grape juice ready at home and join us online.  Our amazing doves will be present in the sanctuary, and resident fabric artist, Margaret Harris, has made new stoles to reflect the fire and power of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost!  Don’t miss it!

DRIVE-IN WORSHIP! AT 8:30AM

In addition to live streaming worship at 10am, you may also choose to participate in our first ever Drive-In Worship at 8:30am on Sunday, May 31st – Pentecost Sunday!  Those who participate will be guided to park in every other parking spot and stay in their car.  You will be directed to tune your FM radio to a specific radio frequency.  If you would like to participate, we ask that you observe the following guidelines/requirements:

1)   No one can get out of their car – period.  Please go to the bathroom before you come. The building will not be available for use, and we ask that you not get out of your car to greet friends.

2)   Plan to drive into the Rockbridge Parking Lot through the main parking lot entrance on Rockbridge Road.  Ushers will guide you to a parking space.

2)    Please print your bulletin off before you come, or be prepared to have it available on a phone or tablet.  The bulletin will be included in the Friday email from Church.  We will have bulletins for those who do not or cannot bring their own, but that requires paper to be passed from one person to the people in the car.  The safest option is to print your own.

3)    No communion will be observed in the Drive-In Worship, although virtual communion will be celebrated during the live stream worship at 10am.

4)    The service will be no more than 30/40 minutes.

Family Promise Update

Family Promise of the Midlands is still operating but in a very different way by partnering with other homeless organizations in the Midlands. The families they are currently serving are using hotels and apartments as living quarters.  Forest Lake Presbyterian Church has made two donations so far from our Family Promise budget to assist them in providing housing for the families. Until the churches are able to host families in house again, Family Promise is in need of gift cards for grocery stores, gas, restaurants, etc. to assist families in the program. If you would like to contribute to this very worthwhile effort please mail them directly to Family Promise at 1333 Omarest Drive, Columbia, SC  29210 and indicate that the gift cards are given on behalf of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.
