Dear Friends,

There is A LOT happening around FLPC this summer!  I have some big events to put on your radar.

First, our long-time Director of Faith Formation for Youth, Bill Wannamaker, is leaving us to move to Easley with his family!  His last official day with FLPC is July 20^th (right after he returns from taking our youth to the Montreat Youth Conference).  But we will be honoring and thanking Bill for his ministry among us on Sunday, August 9^th.  Please see the description in the newsletter and plan to help us thank Bill by writing a note of appreciation and thanks.  You can bring the notes to the church on or before August 9^th and we will give them all to Bill, with some other gifts.

Second, The Next 70 Year Capital Campaign is about to have its official beginning.  On Sunday, August 16^th you are all invited to register to a Campaign Luncheon.  There you will learn about the scope and projects included in this campaign, including the benevolent component which will ensure that FLPC is “blessed to be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2)  There will be a presentation and time for questions. Please mark your calendars to attend this luncheon!

Third, Sunday, August 30^th will be our official Capital Campaign Dedication Sunday.  On this day all those making financial pledges to The Next 70 Years Campaign will walk forward to place our pledges on the communion table.   We know we must fix our elevator and HVAC units.  We want to be a church ready to be useful to God for the next seventy years.  Please put this date on your calendar and plan to be in worship.

Fourth, we are getting close to putting out registration information for our speaker series celebrating our nation’s 250^th anniversary.  The American Experiment: a Trilogy in Celebration of 250 Years! will begin on Wednesday, September 30^th with a presentation from Dr. Richard Chacon of Winthrop University – “The Great Awakening’s Impact on the American Revolution.”  October 7^th, our own John Allison will speak on “Scotch-Irish Presbyterian Influence on the Revolutionary War in the S.C. Backcountry.  And the trilogy will be completed by Federal Judge Cameron M. Currie with her presentation, “The Path from War to Constitution.”  Watch for the registration links for these presentations, complete with catered dinners!
