Reconfirm Your Faith!

Dear Friends,

In my own prayers, one of the requests I make of God is to fill me (and those I love) with a desire to know, to love, and to serve God. I want to remain curious about who God is, how God works, and what God wants of me. My own faith is much more of a pilgrimage or journey than a destination. There is always more to know and to learn and to experience. I pray that prayer for our congregation also. Because I know that IF our congregation wanted to know God, then nothing I could do (or not do) would stop you from seeking God. Would you be willing to add this petition to your own prayers, that God will give you an insatiable desire to know, love and serve God?

And because of that prayer, I want to invite you to act on that desire by attending our intergenerational, evening Vacation Bible School. We will gather on Sunday through Wednesday evenings (July 13-16) for supper (all free, but reservations are required) at 5:45 and there will be programing for all ages after supper (including childcare)! Our theme is Reconfirm Your Faith: Cultivating a Curiosity About God. Ed Black and his planning committee have worked hard and long to ensure that we will be invited to think deeply about God and what God wants of us. Ed, Ruth Roberts, Tom Leclair, and I will be leading the adult options all designed to help us define what we do believe and to make room for questions and curiosity. Adults will focus on the basics of our faith much as they are taught and discussed in the youth Confirmation Classes at FLPC. Each night we will be done by 7:30. Consider coming! We have planned for some extra meals, so there is still time and space to register. And if you don’t want to come for a free supper, just come for the fellowship and learning.

What do you have to do that is more important than learning more about the God who created all that exists, and who knows you, loves you, and claims you? And if you are out of town or already committed, you are not without options at FLPC. Pick another way to learn more about God. After Labor Day Weekend, Sunday morning classes will begin again. And there will be many midweek options. There are also two B365 small groups who have been reading through the whole Bible since last January. We will begin reading the New Testament in September. If you’d like to join us to read the New Testament, contact Ed or Ellen to find out how to do that. Come and join us. May God fill us ALL with an insatiable desire to know, to love and to serve God.

See you in worship!
