FOREST LAKE TALKS

A Message from Ellen

Dear Friends,
On Sunday, August 18th, the Session has called a meeting of the congregation for three purposes: (1) To hear and act on the recommendation of the Congregational Nominating Committee to elect Deacons and Elders for the Class of 2027 (2) To hear a report on both the Capital Campaign that is ending, and on continuing capital needs, and (3) to educate the congregation regarding safety procedures and policies.
This meeting will begin immediately following worship on August 18th. While it is easy to skip out, I hope you will plan to stay to listen and to vote. Our Presbyterian government delegates a lot of the governing to the Session. So, the election of Elders and Deacons is critical to the health and vitality of our congregation. [See the officer-elect biographies inside this Newsletter] But our system of government also provides a balance of power between those elected to lead (Elders, Deacons, and Ministers) and the congregation. So, being engaged and voting on the things brought to the congregation is essential for the health of our congregation.
The Session, Board of Deacons, and Staff are constantly working on how to make FLPC a safer place for everyone. Wayne Harris has consented to educate the congregation on some of our safety policies that you need to know in case of an emergency (everything from a tornado to an active shooter situation). And the Session will give a report on the conclusion of the Capital Campaign that we began in 2021 and also on some capital needs, on which we want your feedback, that have surfaced since 2018 (when we made our last capital needs list). This is the business end of our congregation, and all active, adult members ( 2024 Confirmation class that includes you!) are asked to stay and to vote.
Community only works when we show up for each other. I invite you to show up, lean in, and to become a part of the Good News that is Forest Lake Presbyterian Church!
See you in worship!
Ellen
