December 18 Advent Devotional

December 18, 2020

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

John 3:16 is a verse we usually associate with Easter. But, when I read this verse, it fills me with an immense sense of hope. And isn’t that what Advent is all about, hope? If God loves us THIS MUCH, he must really care about us! That is what I cling to during these troubling times. God has made us a part of His family through the gift of His Son, Jesus. Wow! When I really reflect on that, it fills me with joy and helps to calm my weary heart. I know that life will always bring us difficult times, but with God’s love, we are never alone. So, I am hopeful that no matter what comes our way, God will be there. God was there in the beginning, He will be there in the end and most importantly, He is here NOW! Come Lord Jesus, Come!

God Our Father,Your love for us knows no bounds! We are so grateful for that love. You have shown the depth of Your love for us in the both the baby and crucified Jesus. During this season of Advent, fill our hearts with Your love. Help us to see Your love in others, especially those that are hard to love. Break down the barriers we build around us and fill us with Your Spirit so that we may show Your love to the world. May we be instruments of hope and joy this Advent Season. Amen
