8/16/22 Devotional from Ed

August 16, 2022

Text: Acts 2:43-47

Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Devotional:

Back in school we used to dream about this everyday
Could it really happen?
Or do dreams just fade away?
Then we started singing them
They said it sounded smooth
Then we started a group and here we are
Kickin' it just for you

The next time you're at the grocery store, Target, or even the dentist office, see if you find yourself reminiscing about some of the songs you hear over the sound system. Hal, Will, and I were at a local store last week, and all of us were treated to two of the employees dancing to "Motownphilly" while working. Hal watched them dance, started listening to the song in the store, loved it, and now requests it nonstop around our house. Elizabeth and I are OK with it, because let's be real, it does sound "smooth," 31 years after it debuted.

The Church of Jesus Christ has existed for a long time, and it has certainly faced its challenges over the past few years. However, the "old school" components of the church - worshiping together, service, fellowship - will never fade away.

You may be reminiscing about the "days of old" with FLPC, so we have good news over here at the corner of Rockbridge and Trenholm.

The church is "kickin it" old school this fall with our faith formation offerings. We've heard your feedback - people long for the days of old when we gathered together beyond Sunday, the church building was busy throughout the week, and small groups kept forming to create even more communities. Plus, our elementary children will be going over the stories in their children's Bibles, we're offering Disciple I, Ellen Skidmore has a "Following Jesus" class, and of course we have our H3 small group offerings. There is something for all of us to do here at FLPC, but we need you to help make it happen.

Take a look at this below and see how you can get plugged in. If you've been wondering (maybe dreaming) about how you can grow in your faith, jump in:

See you soon at FLPC.

Prayer: Holy God, give us the strength and courage to try something new to help us grow in our faith this fall. Amen.
